As far as I know, The Klan was started by 6 confederate soldiers after the Civil war as a fraternity. The kids were very well educated for their time. Time after the civil war was in dire trouble. Homes destroyed, People dead etc. The Klan was first playing pranks for people who were depressed. The kids raided a neighbor's house and took bed sheets, Blankets, And pillowcases to make bizarre costumes. With these costumes, members would pass themselves off as "ghosts" of dead confederate armymen.
At first the Klan wasn't violent. But that changed when the members realized the secret club could be used to control blacks, Carpetbaggers, Scallywags, And politicians. Pretty self explanatory.
