The KKK stands for the Ku Klux Klan, also sometimes referred to as the Klan. The KKK was founded in 1865.
You need to be more specific here. The Ku Klux Klan was not an individual but an organization so technically speaking it can't "die." The original Klan effectively ceased to exist in the 1870s about ten years after its founding, but there have since been other organizations using that name, some of which still exist.

The name "Ku Klux Klan" was most likely originated from the Greek word "kuklos", meaning circle. Also, "Klan" was considered another version for the word "clan", so the founders of the KKK must have merged these words together to form the name of their organization, "Ku Klux Klan". All together, the name suggests that the KKK is a circle, or band, of brothers.~ Rosalind FraserVisit the link below for more.
The group adopted the name ku klux klan from the greek word "kuklos" meaning circle and then they just took on the English word clan. So it simply means circle clan.
