The Mayflower was part owned, with three others, by Christopher Jones of Harwich, Essex, UK. It was bought from the Greenland Whale Fisheries Co. in 1606 and hunted whale in the summer months off the coast of Iceland down the North American coast. In the less warm months it traded with mainland Europe and Norway - taking woven fabrics, cottons and ale etc. and bringing back wine from France and anything else that London merchants required.
