It began with six French and one British armies consisting of 39 French and 6 British divisions of 1,071,000 soldiers counter-attacking 27 German divisions of 1,485,000 soldiers. The battle lasted from the 5th to the 12th of September in 1914. The battle was an allied victory and it successfully ended the monthlong German offensive that began the war and reached the outskirts of Paris.
