The machine guns enabled military forces to protect themselves to the kill large groups of servicemen, bring down planes and and damage ships. The 50 millimeter Browning automatic gun won the day when they were mounted on ships, planes and placed on the ground to fight off the enemy. There were so many superior machine guns in World War 2 that many are still around today. Some have simply been improved upon and ride on our soldiers shoulders now.
