The experiences of the settlers in Jamestown and the Pilgrims in Massachusetts were radically different because their purpose for settling in the New World were radically different. The Pilgrims came to escape the religious persecution of the Church of England. Their relationships with the Native Americans they came in contact with was relatively a friendly one certainly at the beginning. The Tribes helped the Pilgrims. The Jamestown Colony was sponsored by a British trading company, and supported by the British Crown. They came to mark out land for Britain and begin tobacco plantations. They wanted land from the Native Americans. This brought on almost at once conflicts. The British Crown also had a strategy of converting the Tribes to Christianity and loyalty to King James. They were unlike the Pilgrims who did not pressure their Native American friends to do these kinds of things.
In Jamestown there wasn't much cooperation. The men were not interested in doing anything but looking for gold. There was even a Spanish spy with the settlers. As far as the Pilgrims go their purpose was different from Jamestown . They planned on forming a community and creating a life. It was an accident that Jamestown became an established colony and not something they planned. The Pilgrims were a cohesive group all with the same values and purpose so cooperation was part of it within and with the Native Americans.

The pilgrims suffered a harsh journey to the new land even losing almost half of its passengers owing to illnesses such as scurvy and contagious diseases. The harsh winter forced them to stay on board. When the surviving passengers who were suffering from malnutrition and sickness, went ashore, a native Indian who knew English helped them survive the harsh winter by showing them how to grow vegetables such as corn. He showed them how to extract sap from maple trees, recognize which plants were poisonous and taught them how to catch fish from the rivers. They had a long treaty of friendship and the pilgrims invited the Native Indians to celebrate their well being after a harsh winter, their first successful harvest and blessings of a good harvest with thanksgiving prayers and a feast.
William Bradford's purpose for writing was to document the history of the Pilgrims' journey to America and their establishment of Plymouth Colony. He wanted to provide an account of the challenges they faced, the interactions with Native Americans, and the development of their community for future generations. Additionally, he aimed to promote the ideals and values of the Puritan religion that guided the Pilgrims' actions.
