Where??? If You mean in England, where Shakespeare (note the E) lived mainly under Queen Elizabeth the 1st, then:

Under Elizabeth I, the religion was Protestant, Church of England Christianity.

Under James I, in the last 13 years of his life and before the gunpowder plot, the country would have been wavering between what was mentioned above and Catholicism.

In Shakespeare's country, the official state church was the protestant Church of England. There were also many Roman Catholics.
