The role of a secretary in 1950 was to keep the office running smoothly. She did filing, answered telephones, made coffee, and greeted visitors. She also sometimes ran errands and made sure her boss did not forget appointments. Usually secretaries wore skirts with tops and/or suit jackets suitable for daytime business wear.
