Countries like France, America, Japan, Germany, and China though America started it.
After America was discovered, it was ( obviously ) named " America " therefore, anyone born in this country is an American, just like people from Germany are Germans.
It is used for living, working, traveling, tourism, shipping, and pretty much everything else, just like North America and all the other continents.

It's the Zimmermann Telegraph. Basically, Germany was like, "Mexico, help us and we will give you your land that America took from you." Britain deciphered the telegram and then sent it along public lines to America. This way Germany would think that someone betrayed Germany. America received the telegram.
