For Egypt - absolute. Basically because without the Nile there would be no Egypt as we know it, only desert. The Nile encouraged settlement and cultures because it gave life in the form of water for, amongst other things, drinking, crops and transport.

The Nile River has a lot of significance. Some fun facts about it is that it's the only river to flow from south to north! It is known as the longest river in the world, while it is almost impossible to measure if the Amazon is actually longer. It is also the only place where the Nile Crocodile resides. In ancient Egyptian times it provided sustenance for all of the people. Without it's faithful water supply the civilization would have never survived. The Nile River floods every spring, pouring water into all of the fields producing extremely fertile soil. This allows the crops to spring up and provide income and food for the nation.
