Gettysburg is overrated as a decisive battle because of the high number of casualties and Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The actual turning point of the war was the Fall of Vicksburg. Choking off the Southern Armies from reinforcements and supplies eventually led to the collapse of Southern logistical system. At best, Gettysburg was a missed opportunity to crush the Army of Northern Virginia, and signals the shift of initiative to the North in the Eastern Theater of Operations.
