What was the situation in the Netherlands in the spring of 1945?
In Spring 1945 the Netherlands were in a desperate state. Early on in the war, the Netherlands had been victim to Luftwaffa air strikes. They were occupied but troops that were cut off from supplies. These supplies were needed to keep the German troops in a fighting state. The Allies started air dropping supplies like clothes and Food to the civilians and this continued until the armistice was signed on 11th May 1945. An interesting note that in both world wars no allied troops fought in the north of the country.
