The Ethiopian Orthodox Church
Tchaikovsky was Russian Orthodox, though in adulthood he fell away from the traditional Judeo-Christian idea of God and religion. Regardless, Tchaikovsky felt a strong attachment to the beauty of Orthodox worship and composed the magnificent Liturgy of St. John Chrysostomos.
Because of the reality of God experienced by believers. This gave them enormous strength and the willingness to suffer under persecution.
Nobody owned the Eastern Orthodox Church (which originally was called the Greek or Eastern Church). The highest authorities of the church were the four patriarchs: the patriarchs of Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem and Constantinople. From the reign of Justinian the Great on, the Byzantine Emperors were like supreme authorities of the church, exercising a strong control over the ecclesiastical hierarchy, protecting the church, presiding over its ecumenical councils and appointing the Patriarchs. However, they did not own the church.
There have been monks and nuns in the Orthodox Church from as early as the Third Century AD. Since then, Orthodoxy has maintained a strong monastic presence in most countries, but particularly in Greece, Russia and Serbia. In recent decades, Orthodox monasticism has spread to countries such as the USA, Canada, Britain and Australia, with many monks and nuns coming from former Catholic and Protestant backgrounds. One particular monastery in the US today, in Arizona, has over 40 monks, most of whom are former Protestants. Even many African Americans are discovering the richness of the Orthodox Faith, and have established the St Moses the Black Orthodox brotherhood. The Orthodox Church regards monasteries as being the 'lungs' of the Church, and therefore an essential part of the faith.
The basic answer to your question is No, no Holy Wars have ever been approved or begun by the churches against other churches. Remember that Orthodoxy is made up of several church branches (i.e. Russian, Greek, Bulgarian etc.) each with their own head. The heads get together (usually in COnstantinople the center of the Orthodox faith) and they decide policies (usually things like new saints, or maybe additional members of the orthodox family). There have been political wars however, Orthodox Serbians attacked several Bosnian Muslims in the early to mid 1990s however this was absolutely NOT sanctuned by the church. In fact, the Church has a clear defensive based view of military. In fact in the later crusades, the Orthodox church refused to aid the Catholic conquerers of the Holy Land for because of this strong tradition of avoiding conflict. Orthodox nations, however, do exist seperately from the church and at times, as in all religions, overzealous people take control and plunge the nation into War, especially seen during WWI, WWII, and the Communist Revolutions. Churches will aid during war time by providing shelter in monestaries, food, protection, even defense and monetary support when needed (the example was the aid of refugees, or freedom fighters like in Greece' fight for Independence) But Orthodoxy has a strong NON-Violence policy based in centuries old teachings of word over blood to spread Christ's word (Hense why the Orthodox nations never participated in any form of inquisition or torture.
a water solution of a strong acid is what?
The very early days of Christianity apparently saw considerable diversity within the Christian community, as evidenced by the comments of authors such as Paul and Matthew. Some of the very early Christian sects include Ebionites, Nazarenes, Nazoraeans, Cerinthians and Carpocratians, as well as what was later to become known as the proto-Catholic Orthodox Church. With the strong support of Emperor Constantine, the Catholic Orthodox Church became the dominant Christian Church and eventually the state religion of Rome. After the Great Schism of 1054, the then universal Catholic Orthodox Church split into the separate Roman Catholic and Orthodox branches of Christianity. So, although Catholicism has roots going back to the very beginning of Christianity, it really only separated from its sister Orthodox Churches in 1054 CE.
