According to the Handbook of Texas Online (http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/TT/mkt2.html): The first legislative salary was set at a maximum of $4,800 annually in 1960. In 1967 the Texas Constitutional Revision Commission recommended allowing the legislature to determine its own salary. This was not adopted. In 1975 voters approved an increase in the legislative salary to $7,200 a year.
