Baseball suffered like most industries during the Depression. Most teams lost money as total attendance dropped from 10.1 million in 1930 to 6.3 million in 1933. Consequently, salaries were cut accordingly. The average player salary in 1929 was $7,500; by 1933 it was $6,000. Many teams sold star players, major and minor league, to the wealthier teams to make payroll. Cincinnati played the first night gamesin 1935 and many teams followed suit shortly thereafter. This increased overall attendance. Around then baseball teams started selling broadcasting rights of their games to radio stations. Beer sales were restarted and concession stands had more variety.
