The story of Goliath happened back in the Old Testament section of The Bible. Goliath was a huge giant who claimed to be the meanest ogre of all times. He was of Philistine origin and against God. He was so large he scared the people of Israel. In the fields was a young shepherd boy named David, who was brave and bold. Because of his youth, David, had been overlooked as a possible giant slayer. But David went to King Saul and talked him into letting him slay the giant Goliath, which David did. He took a smooth stone and a sling and flung the stone right smack in the middle of Goliath's forehead, killing him instantly. David became a hero, and later king of Israel.

On the other hand, serious historians do not regard the story of David and Goliath as based on fact. Even Chronicles, in recounting the story of David, entirely omits the story of David and Goliath, suggesting that the Chronicler did not really believe the story. Historically, the giant Goliath had never fought before and did not fight David.

If Goliath's armour ever existed, it has long since disappeared.
