The people of Africa gained some of their independence from countries like Great Britain. These countries occupied much of Africa and created colonies there.
A war for Canada's independence? Good Heavens! Of course not. We are a peaceful and proper nation. We earned our independence. There is an analogy to the process of Canada's earning its independence. The first step was like going to elementary school. The colonies were governed largely by Britain and there was very little local government. The next step was like graduating into high school. Over a period of time, the colonies achieved a measure of self-government. Later, the concept of 'responsible government' was achieved, whereby the government was responsible to the people living in the colonies, with very little control from Britain. The final step was like entering university. Canada became fully independent and, over time, absorbed the remaining British North American colonies and territories. With Britain's concurrence, of course. Today, Canada is a modern democracy, and one of the world's major industrial nations.
The middle colonies are in the middle of awesomeness!
No.
Some colonies had a war of independence or revolt against their controllers (like French Algeria or Portuguese East Africa), some were given independence partly due to the fear of revolt (like the Belgian Congo), some were annexed by other nations (like the British Cameroons) and others were given independence through peaceful negotiations (like The Kenya Colony).

Human Rights is what Paine saw as the global significance of the American struggle for independence. Other basic human rights like right of expression were also very important.
They didn't like Portuguese rule and overthrew it. -They have been independent since 1650.
The Portuguese were incredibly important because of their navigation of the world. They explored places like South America and the Coast of Africa, founding colonies while they went.

because the british were controlling them and they did not like it

It proved to the British that the colonies were serious about independence. The King more or less treated the colonies like children having a fit that they would soon get over.
Some of the states that wanted to become independent of Great Britain include Kenya, India and Uganda. Countries like Kenya had guerilla units performing acts of sabotage and murder as a sign of struggle when the negotiation was not working.
If they hadn't the United States might be still an English colony. The men who wanted independence were the cream of the colonies. They were the most educated, wealthy, well read, richest people in the colonies. People like Jefferson had read the Enlightenment thinkers and the era of the monarchy was coming to an end. It was a natural movement to want independence.
