There was no king in the american civil war, but of course America is not the only country on the planet, neither is it the only country to have a Civil War. In The English Civil War, supporters of King Charles I were "Royalists" or "Cavaliers; supporters of his opponent, Oliver Cromwell, were called "Roundheads."
The Puritans came to power during the English Civil War after they came out in opposition to William Laud, the Archbishop of Canterbury at the time. They called for reform within the Church of England, that would eliminate Bishops, and set up the Church of England along Presbyterian guidelines. The English Civil War is sometimes known as the Puritan Revolution.
It is possible to see a connection with the English Civil War - the Confederates were clearly taking their inspiration from the Cavaliers, and the North was more Puritan in character.
