The terrain for the American paras was bad, windy, and many of them were scattered and landed in flooded fields. The beaches were mostly mined and many had iron obstacles and stakes in the sand. The beaches that managed to get tanks ashore were fortunate. - The 'funnies' saved a lot of deaths, and this was unfortunately what mainly went wrong with Omaha - only 2 tanks out of 30 made it to shore from being carelessly launched too far out in rough seas.
