Movie.
The first Star Wars book with Luke Skywalker in it was George Lucas' novelization of A New Hope written in the late 70's. If you are wondering about in the Star Wars timeline, the answer would be the Novelization of Revenge of the Sith.
The first Star Wars novel came out in 1976. It was simply titled "Star Wars" by George Lucas and Alan Dean Foster. However, it has since come to be know as "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope".
You can go to the official website and they have a soundboard or there is a book which has Star Wars sound effects as well (electronic soundboard included). I think it is called the Sounds of Star Wars.
The films did in fact come before the books. Obviously, the first three Star Wars movies were made in the 1970s and 1980s. After they were released, several books began appearing in stores for people to buy. If I am not mistaking I believe that the first book of the Thrawn Trilogy was the first Star Wars novel to be released. This answer is so wrong. I still own the first Star Wars book that I purchased in 1976 (a year before the Star Wars movie first came out).
In my opinion the books are not as good as the movies but most of the Star Wars comics are really good.
The next book in the Star Wars prequel trilogy after "The Phantom Menace" is called "Attack of the Clones." This book delves into the beginning of the Clone Wars and Anakin Skywalker's journey towards becoming a Jedi Knight.

Star Wars: Darth Bane: Rule of Two
There are not any Star Wars characters in the book, "Wonder" written by RJ Palacio.
The Star Wars books have various settings, if by chance you mean the novelization of the first movie, A New Hope, which was originally called Star Wars, it would be the same as the movie. Tatooine is the main planet. The rest of the movie/book takes place either in space or on The Death Star.
