The plants produce sugar by photosynthesis which is required by all organisms to survive. Many things that we eat are plants such as fruits, onions, carrots, potatoes, and so on.
Also, plants take in CO2 which is toxic to our body and convert it to O2 which we need in order to breathe.
Without plants, earth will be greatly be reduced of food and oxygen. There are some photosynthetic bacterias, but they produce nowhere as near as the amount of oxygen that plants produce. As well as this, plants also provide medicinal substances. One example is poppies: they are turned into the powerful painkiller morphine, but there are thousands of other examples out there. In the rainforests, countless species are used to treat illnesses and disease. Without botanical diversity, thousands of lives will be put at risk. Even though many drugs are now produced artificially, scientists still base their medicinal research on plants.
