The lines of trenches that ran from Belgium to Switzerland during World War II were known as the Western Front. The soldiers fighting in the war would spend many days eating, sleeping, fighting, and other such activities in these trenches both day and night.
There was a large area of land that the British soldiers tried to take from the German soldiers. No one could advance on either side, the soldiers and their commanders got tired of even trying. A newspaper reported named this the Western Front. The US troops, among others, were sent in to break this stalemate, and to move against the Germans. This they did, thanks to General Pershing, by ignoring the stalled British Army, and going around the Western Front with all its trenches.
Trenches were designed to offer maximum defensive cover. It is this attribute caused the stalemate of the war on the Western Front.
The area between the trenches on the Western Front during World War I was commonly referred to as "No Man's Land." It was a devastated strip of land filled with barbed wire, shell craters, and other hazards, making it extremely dangerous for soldiers to cross. It was a deadly territory with little to no control by either side.
poisonous gas in the trenches, horrible wars of attrition, also psychological damage because there were many dead, mutilated bodies in the trenches that surrounded them. and it's affected, not effected. effect is the noun, and affect is the verb. lol.
Soldiers would get sickness like trench foot and lice infection. soldiers would develop extreme cases of shell shock and die. How would you feel if your friends were getting killed by mortars... trenches were NOT a good thing for soldiers
