For this bike, use any 15-40 W oil intended for motorcycles. Don't use regular car or automotive oil with Teflon or moly additives. If the engine is worn, you can use single grade 40 W oil, since the thicker oil will better lubricate all contact surfaces. A 20-50 W engine oil may also be all right. Don't use 10-30 W oil as it is probably too thin.

I'm pretty sure that it is not. I bought an 83 ft500 tank for my 84 vt500 and it isn't even close.
Fork oil capacity is 390cc per leg +or- 2.5cc. ATF is reccommended but best to use 10 to15w fork oil. Hope this helps.

5wt oil. Use Honda oil.
If you mean a different weight then you're not very wise. Use the exact weight oil that Honda recommends. If you are referring to the brand of oil, you do not have to use Honda oil. In fact Honda does not even make oil their oil is refined by another company. You can use any major brand oil of your choice, as long as it is the correct weight.
The VT stands for V twin .Which means two cylinders.
