What are the welding defects in sheet metal?

Porosity is the most common weld defect. For beginners don't rule out lack of penetration and non-compatible welding rod or filler wire. It all depends on how the weld failed if it has. Proper prep and preheat is required in many types of welding. So a little more detailed question can help me give you a more detailed answer. Trapped slag is also a common problem. It creates a void in the weld. Although porosity is the most common defect some porosity doesn't necessarily affect the weld strength.

What type of welding which do not require a molten electrode?

TIG welding electrodes do not melt under most applications. Electrode means it carries electrical current. In MIG welding the wire becomes the electrode. In TIG and Gas Welding the filler material is called a rod. Stick welding uses rods called electrodes.

Is welding hard?

Welding, like any other skill, is one that requires practice. Once you know the basics and have a few hours of practice, you should be able to run a simple bead on an easy metal like steel with most arc welding processes. Wire welding is usually the easiest to learn. However, you shouldn't expect greatness after a few hours. Like most things, your welding skill will improve with practice.

Is mig welding better than gas welding in terms of strength?

It depends on what metal you are welding and how thick it is, but in general, no. Any process that will raise enough heat for adequate weld penetration is for the most part equal.

What is the importance of welding in engineering?

There is a tremendous importance of welding in engineering, there are even such things as welding engineers ( I am one). Welding is what holds the majority of structures together--bridges, cars, tractors, cranes, buildings, etc...If any engineer does not have a good understand of this very popular joining process major problems can exist, such as failures from designing a joint that is un-weldable. Most companies these days are trying to hire welding engineers to help with these problems. Welding can get very specialized with more technical metals and applications.

What does the term Undercut mean in welding?

Undercutting is a defect that appearsas a groove in the parent metal directly a;ong the edges of the weld it is most common in lap fillet welds, but can also be encountered in fillet and butt joints. This type of defect is most commonly caused by improper welding parameters, particularly the travel speed and arc voltage

Describe club foot birth defect?

Club foot or talipes equinovarus is the most common birth defect of the lower extremity, characterized by the foot turning both downward and inward. The defect can range from mild to severe.

Why are arc welding processes considered the most important of the welding practices?

It is most commonly used, due to the fact the materials that can be welded this way are very common, and the equipment is is relatively inexpensive.
