The Spaniards had a lot of reasons to which they could credit their success.
1. Disease: The spread of European diseases in the Indian world to which the Indians were not immune and died by the thousands.
2. Internal American Dissent: There were many internal conflicts within the (Aztec) Empire and local tribes. When the Spaniards came, the local tribes readily directed them towards the Aztecs and made an alliance with the Spaniards. They joined forces with the Spaniards and assisted them in defeating the Aztecs.
3. Military Technology: The Spaniards had a far superior and more advanced militia. They were advanced to the point that they had trained killing dogs at their disposal and even gunpowder allowing them to be able to kill the nearly nude Indian people and warriors by the hundreds without being compromised themselves.
