What were African Americans doing in the US during World War 2?

During wartime in the 1940's African-Americans were no different than they were prior to the war. In fact, they were enlisting and being drafted just the same as anyone else. However, they did not share the same combat groups as their non-African-American counter-parts because the military was not desegregated until Harry S. Truman ordered it to be done during his presidency after the war.
Did you know that World War II also saw the first African-American military aviators in The United States' Armed Forces?

I Personally dont get why blacks are called African-Americans because...For one all black americans are not from AFRICA!!! most of black ppl have more than just african in them...theres asian...european etc..they r not fully africans!!...many africans get offended by this term as well as 'black' americans...there needs to be sum other term made up in the place of "African Americans"...Good one!!!!! I have been asking the same thing forever. Not all blacks are African, so I will never understand it.AIt must be understood that "All Africans are Black and all Blacks are Africans." As long as you are a Blackman you're an African.Yes it is a good question. It started with slavery and the word that began with 'N' was not received well by the blacks. Then they were called 'Blacks' or 'Negros' and then were changed from this to 'African Americans' to try and appease the blacks. The black population have seldom forgotten their roots and most are proud of who they are because their ancestors are from parts of Africa. Thankfully African Americans have come a long way and are actors, attorneys, in the justice system as judges, doctors, in the music business, etc. Still, there are still many poor and suppressed African Americans. In all reality is would be best just to call them Americans and let it be left this way. However, there are some groups that prefer to remind everyone of their heritage and prefer the title 'African American.' I know it's confusing, but today, one can simply ask a black friend how they would like to be referred too and honor them by doing so.

African Americans used many different strategies to gain equal rights during World War II. Specifically, Black leaders forced Roosevelt into doing something about the discrimination the military men were experiencing. So, the President created the Fair Employment Practices Commission. It was a council set up to deal with claims of discrimination by any minority working in the War.

Because he spoke for us African Americans for freedom and to have our Rights. I feel if it wasn't for him the African Americans wouldn't be able to do what we are doing today, to those that wants and has an education.
