There are a great many reasons the Greeks wanted the goddess Artemis - hence her survival to today's knowledge. She was both a healer of women, their protector, and when sudden death or sickness struck them she to was to whom they had to appeal. She was a virgin goddess, so appealed to no male for permission for her doings though she aided and harmed of her own whim. She was goddess of the moon.
