Charles W. Eliot considered himself a very spiritual man, and he believed that the only two clean sports at Harvard were rowing and tennis. He tried to have football banned when he was Harvard's President because he thought it was a mean sport. He also didn't approve of hockey, Baseball, or Basketball.
