The Chinese Cities during the Tang dynasty were the most advanced cities that were ever designed up until that point. in the year 800 AD the Capital of China was in the shape of a very large rectangle. This was the largest city in all of the earth in land area. by comparison in the year 800 Charlemagne's Capital Aix-la-chapelle (today's Aachen ,Germany) could all fit inside one ward of the Capital of the Tang Dynasty which was called Chang'an . During the Song dynasty the Chinese cities remained very much the same but the diffrence was that they grew larger in population and Prosperity. during this time About 1000 AD the Europeans were in the middle of the Middle ages (500-1500 AD) and Municipalities never got very big in population.
