Catholic AnswerSt. Catherine of Siena was a Dominican tertiary who lived in the 14th century. She was a mystic and was recently declared a doctor of the Church. She died at the age of 37 after one of the most eventful lives in the Church. She is famous for many things, one of her most well know works is The Dialogue which is a book written by her secretaries which recorded her conversations with God while she was in ecstasy. There are also over four hundred of her letters in existence. She is responsible for almost single handedly, ended the Great Schism, convincing the Holy Father to return the papacy to Rome from Avignon. One interested fact about her is that she didn't really eat or sleep. She went for many years without eating anything other than the Holy Eucharist, which she received at Mass each morning. She also manged to reduce her sleep to 30 minutes every other day. See the encyclopedia article below for the complete story.
