That where rebels in the land and all of his men had to fight them of the land and eventually William of built a because they didn't like William of Normandy. Because he was not originally from England he was actually from France he was only crowned King because he beat the original ruler Harold Godwinson.

There were lots of rebels which could team up and fight against him, he didn't speak English, He still needed to protect Normandy, there could be another invasion from the vikings, there were a group of English knights in Dover castle who could attack him and he need to organise a coronation. He needed to get to London first and become King so he could soon do a survey to find out how much England was worth. Also, his army was probably tired and worn out.
