Not much was inside a castle. A few bits of furniture and table or two. No closets instead they used chests. Usually one fireplace in the great hall and some tapestry's on the walls. They were big empty spaces, but that fit the purpose of the castle and that was defense.
The castles were used as a residence, but they were heavily fortified. They were well protected from invasion.
