The Missouri Compromise was used to please both pro and anti-slavery people from the North and South with a regulation that prohibited slavery in some states and allowed it in other.
In May of 1856, several violent events further inflamed the United States in respect to its ongoing slavery/anti-slavery tensions. The first (on the 21st) was an attack on the town of Lawrence, Kansas, by a large group of slavery advocates: great damage was done to the settlement and one citizen was killed. This attack was apparently motivated by a (non-fatal) shooting during the previous month; it also served as a motivation in turn, with five pro-slavery Kansas settlers being killed in retaliation just a few days later (on the 24th).
The differences between the north and south they have different economise. The North relied on industry and technology because of the bad soil so they couldn't farm. The south relied on farming and agriculture because of their Rich soil! Also, because of this big economical difference slavery was an issue. in fact slavery was the biggest issue and was the major cause of the civil war! The south wanted slavery because they were always farming. However, the North had no need for slavery because of their industries. But even though the north didn't need slavery they were against it. They morally believed it was wrong and wanted to end it. The south was not going to give up slavery so tensions rose there for causing big tensions leading to the civil war!
A major cause of the US Civil War was the issue of slavery. The Southern states relied heavily on slave labor for their agricultural economy, while the Northern states had largely abolished slavery. This fundamental difference in economic systems and the question of whether slavery should be allowed to expand into new territories created increasing tensions between the North and the South, ultimately leading to the outbreak of the war.
