Pigeons were a communications method that was used often. Many pigeons earned the Dicken Medal, a sort of Medal of Honor for animals that have served above and beyond the Call of Duty in military actions.

Pigeons always return to their nest. To use a pigeon as a carrier you simply take him/her to the front lines (or where ever) attach a message to them then set them free. The bird returns to its nest which should be the communication nexus.

Those were the homing pigeons. Pigeons have long played an important role in war even in modern wars. During the First and Second World Wars, carrier or homing pigeons were used to transport messages back to their home coop behind the lines.

Pigeons are very smart birds. They were used to carry messages to people out of the country. These were notes of help from trapped prisoners. Without pigeons, many more would have died. :)
