The immediate outcome of Columbus' voyage was religious freedom, the long-term outcome was finding the Americas
Some 3,000 Native American warriors wiped out about 225 members of the U.S. Seventh Cavalry. The long term effect of that battle led to the massacre of Indigenous women, children and elderly at Wounded Knee, SD in 1890, virtually bringing to a close the Indian wars that raged across America since the arrival of Columbus in 1492.
There have been major battles through the time of the world, all with many different outcomes. Some include WW I and WW II, both of these outcomes were victorious for the allied troops.
There are no sure and positive outcomes. Group therapy will help some people and fail with others.

No one took advantage of his 1492 voyage immediately. For one thing many people didn't know about it and he was considered a failure by the crown. It wasn't until 1498 that Cabot claimed North America for England and that is 6 years after Columbus. That is not immediate. The difference is the technology of ships and if it was in use by the country that sent the explorers.
