Jehovah's Witnesses have published at least two "predictions" concerning specific dates:
** 1914 Jehovah's Witnesses predicted that this year would be pivotal in human affairs as early as 1880. Some Jehovah's Witnesses, at the time speculated that it would also mean the end of the world system of rulership.
** 1925 Judge Rutherford (2nd President of the Watchtower Society) said that "Millions [living at the time] would never die." This sweeping statement was later acknowledged by the Jehovah's Witnesses as based on an inaccurate understanding of bible prophecy and corrected.
A number of other dates are worthy of note ...
**1874 & 1878 The Jehovah's Witness (along with other religious groups) speculated as to the significance of these years. Theses speculations were in retrospect (made AFTER the dates sited) so are not strictly speaking predictions.
**1975 The Watchtower announced that this year marked the end of 6,000 years of human history but none of their literature ever stated catagorically that this year would mark the "end of the world"rather it was stated that this was a"possibility". Frederick Franz, the then President of the Watchtower Society instructed the Witnesses not to read too much into the date but many ignored his call for caution.
**The Generation of 1914. The Witnesse interpreted Jesus regarding the last days, as being limited to a single generation to mean that those alive in 1914 would see the end of the present system of things. Although no specific date was given this "prediction" was later acknowledged as wrong and their understanding modified.
