As the name "World War" suggests, it involved most of the world. Major areas of combat included Europe, Africa, Asia, with some combat in North and South America.

South Africa was part of the British Comonwealth Nations, and at war with Germany in World WAR II
Because the British needed some help.
I think that Germay was interested in fighting in World War I, because Germany was trying to cotrol all of the region of Africa. But they had some compotetion with France and Britain already having tetority in Africa.
