• They met up with the western Allied Forces in Berlin.
• The Germans finally surrendered. Adolf Hitler had killed himself. The Nazis knew they were defeated. They surrendered to the Western Allies but did not want to surrender to the Russians after the atrocities they had committed in Russia.
• The Russians made the Germans surrender again the next day signing Russian surrender documents.
• The Russians then occupied East Germany and the rest is history.
