James Braddock was dubbed the "Cinderella Man" because of his story that tells us how he went from rags to riches during the depression. He is the symbol of hope because of his story that let the unemployed and poor Americans that they too can get out of their rags and get their own riches.

There was a hope that the dust bowl conditions of the Midwest hadn't affected the far western states and there would be work on the farms there.
