Many many people lived together in one room. It was dirty, cramped, and many diseases flourished because of the poor conditions. Overall, it was a terrible place to live in. The poor lived in these, while the richer lived in nice houses. There weren't enough houses for all the people who moved to the city, so they all had to bunk together.
