Egyptian men did what most men of any society did at that time: they worked. Of course, their job depended upon their social class. Like the low social classes would farm or build the pyramids when it was not farming season. The middle class men may have done things like own shops, and things like that. The higher class men may have done things involved with government or with priests, things like that, which were going to be a lot less hard than the lower class. In other words, the lower class men had the harder, more laborious jobs, and they had to really work; the middle class men also worked, but maybe not so hard and with such laborious tasks as the lower class; and the higher class had the not-so-hard jobs, at least not as hard physically.

There are no such things as "good" jobs. Some are well paid, some are hard work, but a job is a job and in life you get out of everything what you put into it. Working in a shop (anywhere in the world) means you can meet and help people, if you enjoy doing that, then yes, an "Egyptian shopkeeper" is a good job for you.
