The Green Mountain boys were a milita like group founded in part by Ethan Allen. He was also the main leader of the Green Mountain Boys. They captured For Ticonderoga in 1775. They were also formed to protect the people of what is now known as Vermont from both government of New York and New Hampshire, as both had claims on the land and wanted it.
The Green Mountain Boys were a group of militia that participated in the Revolutionary War against the British. They were formed at Catamount Tavern in what is now Bennington, Vermont, created to fight off rival land claimants coming over from New York and New Hampshire. They were lead by Ethan Allen who was born in Litchfield, Connecticut. The most famous of their exploits was the taking of Fort Ticonderoga from the British during the Revolutionary War. Ethan Allen is to have said to have taken it "In the name of the Great Jehovah and the Continental Congress". There is speculation and witness accounts he may have said something more crass and fitting to his rough personality which was "softened" to be more acceptable. Case in point, he once referred to his 7 brothers and sisters as "the seven devils".
