Well Malta will benefit from it because one of the EUs aims is to give all countries equal finances and as Malta isn't a very rich country it will gain more money than the ammount it pays in. From Malta's point of view that is a good decision.
Malta is in lots of debt after the recession so the EU will bale them out if they go bankcrupt and support them if there's a war.
