The best aircraft of WW1 were the Sopwith Camel , the SE 5a & the Bristol F2b Fighter from Britain, The French Spad VII & XIII & the German Fokker Eindekker, the Albatross series & the Fokker D7. The best aeroplane at any one time was largely a matter of personal choice. I don't think there was ever a winner or loser in the air war in WW1.....
The best, for me, is the Sopwith Camel. Flown by the ficticious Captain James Biggleswoth RFC of course ! The most powerful may have been the Fokker D VII, it was able to hang on its propellor, that is sustain flight vertically ! The Spad VII & the SE 5a were fine aircraft too....
