In the 20th century eighteen major flood were recorded, including those of 1987, 1988, and 1998. The 2007 floods also affected many areas in South Asia including a significant one in Bangladesh. Floods occur annually in Bangladesh primarily between the months of July and September. Overall Bandladesh is exposed to an average of 2 floods per year affecting a little more than 40 million people annually.
