Francesco Redi - One of the first to disprove spontaneous generation. An Italian Doctor Who proved maggots came from flies. (Italian 1668) Lazzaro Spallanzani - One of the first to disprove spontaneous generation. An Italian scientist who proved microorganisms could be killed by boiling. (Italian 1767) Louis Pasteur - One of the first to disprove spontaneous generation. A French scientist who proved that micro organisms was carried by dust not air. (French 1864) In 1953 Miller and Urey experiment called as electric spark experiment shows how process of formation of organic compounds or first living cell formation occur.
The scientist's name was Francesco Redi. Anyways, the spontaneous generation experiment was carried out by a scientist (Redi), who hypothesized that organisms just popped out of nowhere (spontaneous). Previously, people rationalized that maggots popped out from meat. So the scientist set up an experiment. He placed two jars of meat outside. He covered one jar, and the other was left open. In a couple weeks time, one jar had maggots but the other did not. This disproved the idea of spontaneous generation. Check this out:
Another name for Spontaneous Generation is "abiogenesis", meaning that life comes from non-life.
Some examples are when worms appear on the ground after it rains, or how maggots tend to appear on rotting meat.

The idea that life forms can spring from inorganic matter is known as spontaneous generation. Aristotle was the chief Western proponent of this belief which was difficult to dislodge because most people had great difficulty in understanding how tiny insects, for instance, could appear as if from nothing. As a matter of fact, Pasteur did not entirely succeed in providing the required proof; however, he did lead the way. By boiling the beef broth in the flask he left the broth unchanged but extinguished the microbial life in it-or at least most of it. Doubters were pushed to the conclusion that there could be no such thing as spontaneous generation, that there must have been something in the broth that boiling had destroyed. The broth did not go bad. Please see the link for a fuller account.

Inheritance, segregation, and independent assortment. He used pea plants in his experiment, this was generally genes and punnet squares and how they worked.
Spontaneous generation was mistakenly thought to explain how living organisms could spontaneously arise from non-living matter. However, this idea was disproven by experiments conducted by scientists like Louis Pasteur, who showed that living organisms only come from pre-existing life. This laid the foundation for the concept of biogenesis, which states that life only arises from other living organisms.

what is spontaneous process".Explain the role of free energy in these processes.
People believed in spontaneous generation because they observed things seemingly appearing from non-living matter, such as maggots appearing on decaying meat or mice appearing in piles of grain. They did not have the knowledge of microorganisms at the time to explain these phenomena.
A refuted concept that basically stated that organisms could be generated from inorganic, or organic matter. Such as rotten meat giving rise to maggots. Experimentally refuted by Louis Pasture in the 19th century. ( had nothing to do with abiogenesis, though creationists like to think so )
