The Roman Empire, in the beginning of its long and successful life, had a great geographic spot. This meant that enemies couldn't get to Rome that well. Then, it conquered many regions, starting from the ItalianPeninsula. More and more people were forced to become Roman citizens or slaves. However, in its early times, they were given a choice.
