Canada, the first country to be created by legislation, came into being on July 1, 1867, through the British North America Act (now the Constitution Act). The process has come to be known as "Confederation."The pre-Confederation colony known as the Province of Canada joined with the colonies of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia (s. 3) and the Province of Canada was then severed into the provinces of Ontario and Québec (s. 6).1867

nova scotia was part of the first 4 (3) provinces that joined and startedthe confederation.
Canada was the first country to be created by legislation. The British North America Act (now the Constitution Act) created Canada as a federation, uniting Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the pre-Confederation Province of Canada (see section 3). Upon Confederation, the pre-Confederation Province of Canada was severed into the Provinces of Québec and Ontario (see section 6). Therefore, although it is correct to say that Québec was one of Canada's four original provinces, it is incorrect to say that Québec 'joined' Confederation.
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the pre-Confederation Province of Canada were joined together to create Canada on July 1, 1867. At the same time, the pre-Confederation Province of Canada was divided into two provinces: Québec and Ontario.
Canada was created by legislation (the British North America Act ) which came into effect on July 1, 1867.The provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the pre-Confederation Province of Canada all joined at the same point in time. Also at that same point in time, the Province of Canada was severed into the Provinces of Ontario and Québec. Therefore, three provinces joined, but there are four original provinces.See sections 3 and 6 of the British North America Act(now the Constitution Act).
