Candles are served in every day life. They have been used for many years starting with the Egyptians. Egypt was the first civilization to use a wicked candle. Candles helped them see in dark areas and the also helped them keep time with the shadow of the flame.
They used candles for light, and sometimes to help melt clays.
Sometime about 3000 BC, the Egyptians made candles out of reeds soaked in tallow (animal fat); they also made beeswax candles. The Romans are credited with inventing the wick. Check out the related link for more info.
The earliest known candles were made from whale fat in China during the Qin Dynasty in 221-206 BCE. The first scented candles were made in India from cinnamon.
