Lord William Bentinck introduced western or English education in India in 1835.
The British introduced the English Language as well as the western system of education in India. They did so during their rule over India in the 19th century. This was done so that the Indians were moulded according to the British needs and were able to serve the government. Thus, the British could have able officers at a low expense rather getting those from England. Therefore, English was introduced in India.
Because without education our life is wast.

Wood's despatch.
Today, English remains at the heart of India's society. There are more than 35 million people in India that use the English language.
The education system is improving with the introduction of international schools in India. They follow practical education for not only primary but also for the high school level; their education model is quite progressive, innovative and has extracurricular activities in school too so that it enhances the overall development of the child.
Lord William Bentick who was the Governor General of India at that time, started the English Education system in India. But, it was Thomas Babington Macaulay who was instrumental in convincing the Governor General to adopt English as the medium of instruction in higher education, from the sixth year of schooling onwards, rather than Sanskrit or Persian then used in the institutions supported by the East India Company.Hope this answers your question.....
